Emma's Story
Let us introduce you to Emma Maltais, whom we affectionately nickname Emvagabonde :)
A native of Saint-Lambert, she did her nursing diploma at Cégep Maisonneuve in Montréal. Cégep was perfect for Emma, with all the time off, it let her go off and discover the world every summer. She’ll have visited 25 countries in 27 years of life, 7 of them solo, that’s no small thing!!! #travelpassion.
After passing her licensing exam, she juggled her two jobs: salesperson and server in a bistro. She still wasn’t working in the field, because even back then, she didn’t like the inflexible schedules that the various workplaces offered her.
She then went on to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing sciences at the Université de Montréal (#schoolpassion) and started a job at the CHUM as a clinical nurse in gynecologic oncology and organ transplants.. At this point, several options were open to her: pushing her training even further, working in outpatient care, in a private clinic.. but something was off… and she couldn’t put her finger on it. She wasn’t satisfied and always wanted more!
What followed was a big period of soul-searching. You know that moment when you finish your studies and you finally have to start the famous “adult life” everyone talks about, but you can’t really figure out what you want to do. We know, it’s not easy. There are so many choices and at the same time, we’re so young.
That’s when she made the leap into a private travel-health clinic, telling herself that maybe this was what she needed deep down? A mix between her passion for travel and her passion for nursing, why not? 1 year later, something was still missing… Emma was still looking for change, she needed things to move! What was missing was that little something that makes you feel like you’re finally on your spot, your “X”.
As they say: “Timing is everything,” and that’s when her friend introduced her to the Agence Nomade. She quit her job almost immediately and set her sights on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine, even before being hired. Bold, you’ll say!
It only took her a few minutes to fall in love with the Islands. No need to explain to you how Nomade came along at just the right moment in Emma’s life. Working with an agency not only fills her need for constant change, but also connects with her passion for travel and lets her make so many wonderful connections.
What’s crazy is that she no longer feels the need to travel as much as before. That’s when you understand that you have the most beautiful job in the world, the one where you feel like you’re travelling, and that, every single day. The vacation life, Emma has truly figured it out :) One thing’s for sure, she’s in the right place, she’s finally found her famous “X”.
